Perfect Grilled Steak

Perfect Grilled Steak

Takes about 1 hour

Makes 1 steak, cooked MEDIUM

-what you need-

  • 1 large steak of choice, I used a 1.5 pound Ribeye about 1.5-2 inches thick (Costco, iykyk)
  • Lots of salt, I used flaky salt, love the dramatics
  • Lots of fresh cracked pepper

-what to do-

  1. Bring out your thawed fresh steak and place on a plate and heavily salt and pepper – all sides. Let sit for 15 minutes at room temp as you heat up your grill.
  2. Heat your grill to medium high heat.
  3. When ready, place on your seasoned steak and close the lid, cook for 4 minutes, then lift the steak up, rotate sideways and place back down, this will give those loving square grill marks that we all know and love. Then close lid and cook another 4 minutes.
  4. Now repeat. Flip steak over, close lid, cook another 4 minutes, rotate, close lid, cook another 4 minutes, and then do the finger test.
  5. I’m at the point I can poke my steak and know when it’s to my liking but please read up on the finger poke test on steaks. It has been my go to until I got it down perfect! If you are nervous you can always stick a thermometer in to tell the degree but just know the steak will continue to cook when resting so undercook to get to your desired temp. When I tested out using a thermometer I took my steak out when it reached 120 degrees and it continued to cook to 140 when I let it rest, reaching a perfect medium.
  6. When done, place steak on a plate, cover with foil and let rest!!! It needs it. I let mine rest 20 minutes at least.
  7. Then with your sharpest knife, slice thin and serve with your favorite sides!
  8. Enjoy!!!
